1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using SkeinBook ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
SkeinBook is a desktop application that helps you organize, search, and manage your personal collection of knitting and crochet pattern PDFs. The App runs locally on your computer.
3. License
SkeinBook is provided under a personal-use license. You may:
- Install and use the App on your personal computers
- Import and organize your own legally purchased or freely obtained pattern PDFs
You may not:
- Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the App
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Use the App to infringe on the intellectual property of pattern designers
4. Your Content
- Your PDFs are yours. SkeinBook does not claim any ownership of your pattern files.
- SkeinBook does not upload, copy, or move your PDF files. It stores only file path references and extracted metadata.
- You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use the patterns you import.
5. Third-Party Services
SkeinBook optionally integrates with:
Ravelry
- Governed by Ravelry's Terms of Use and API Terms
- Your Ravelry data is kept locally and never shared externally
- We do not modify or delete data on your Ravelry account
Anthropic (Claude AI)
- Pattern text sent for analysis is governed by Anthropic's Usage Policy
- Pattern text is processed via SkeinBook's secure API proxy. No API key is required from users. Text snippets are anonymized before processing — no filenames or personal information are included.
Supabase Metadata Cache
- When you import a non-Ravelry pattern and AI extraction is enabled, you will be asked whether to contribute anonymized metadata (title, designer, yarn weight) to a shared community cache. This is optional.
- If you decline, your pattern is still analyzed — the result is just not shared
- No personally identifiable information is included
- Ravelry-sourced data is never uploaded to this cache under any circumstances
6. Intellectual Property
- Pattern PDFs are the intellectual property of their respective designers and publishers
- SkeinBook is a personal organizational tool — it does not grant you any rights to patterns you do not own
- SkeinBook's source code, design, and branding are the property of SkeinBook
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE APP WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SKEINBOOK AND ITS DEVELOPERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.
In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the App (which is currently $0 for the beta).
9. Beta Software
During the beta period:
- The App may contain bugs or incomplete features
- Data loss is possible — we recommend regular exports/backups
- Features may change without notice
- The beta is provided free of charge
10. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to revoke access to optional cloud services (Supabase cache, auto-updates) at any time.
11. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms as the App evolves. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
